Steven Dearing has been teaching classical guitar and other guitar lessons since 1992 in both southeastern Michigan and Southern Ontario. He is an active touring and recording artist, performing as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. Steven is the guitarist of the Dearing Concert Duo, a voice and classical guitar duo that is heard in concert and on radio internationally. He is also heard throughout the metro Detroit area as a soloist for entertainment at local parties and as guest soloist with local orchestras.
Steven's studied in Canada with Jeffrey McFadden, Dominic Bertucci and William Beauvais. In the US he studied under John Holmquist. He has performed in master classes with several international artists including David Russell, Fabio Zanon, Ricardo Cobo and Manuel Barreuco. He holds a Masters degree in Guitar Performance and has been on faculty at the University of Windsor since 1995. Eight of his students have been awarded silver medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music for achieving the highest marks in Ontario on their Royal Conservatory of Music guitar exams. Many of his current and former pupils are now teaching at music schools and performing throughout North America.
Mr. Dearing's students learn how to produce a strong tone, how to use the body ergonomically in the sitting position, basic theory, sightreading skills, analysis, performance skills as well as historical interpretation.
